Accidental Parents – Part 2

Piyush & Shraddha, whose little boy is reaching 6-month mark, had completely different experience when they found out about their pregnancy.

Piyush is a Marketing Executive and Shraddha is a Stay-At-Home mom. It came as a shock to them when the home pregnancy kit confirmed their pregnancy, only after a month after their marriage. They had a love marriage, but they weren’t planning or expecting a baby right after their marriage. They were yet to know each other’s family and explore their interests, living together.

The first thought that occurred to them was to abort the baby as they were not at all ready for it at that time. They stealthily consulted the gynaecologist to confirm the news. They even contemplated taking pills to terminate the pregnancy.

It was Piyush who took a stand and convinced Shraddha to keep the baby. He promised to take good care of her throughout the stint and to work harder to keep the balance. They discussed all the pros as cons didn’t matter. Plus, there was family pressure of NOT aborting the first child. With heavy heart, Shraddha went ahead with their decision as she had to sacrifice her career, their courtship period and even their official honeymoon.

Living in a joint family with never ending visits of guests, didn’t make it easy for her throughout the 8 months. Apart from growing belly, she had to manage all the household chores as well. Piyush tried to support her as much as he could, but he didn’t really have any say in front of his parents.

Conflicts between them became as regular as any other activity of the day. Their financial situation also didn’t make it easy on them. With no support from family and Piyush being in-between the jobs, added to their stress levels and disputes. Piyush kept his calm giving her the benefit of doubt and overlooked their disagreements as part of pregnancy hormones & mood swings. They breathed a sigh of relief only when first trimester was ending and Piyush had secured a well-paying job.

It wasn’t really a smooth journey for the rest of the period, but as the baby grew, and they thought about their future together, it somehow made it easier for them. They had a plan of action in place now. They had a better grip on life, financially & emotionally.

When their baby boy was born, they knew that though things didn’t really go as planned but they didn’t regret it either. Their boy soothed the pain from all the hardships they went through, only to bring them love and joy.

Piyush & Shraddha say, “We had one of a kind experience of this journey. We learned the hard way, but it made us self-sufficient and independent. We just want to make sure that our boy is never short of anything. Though we would have loved to have some more time before the baby but when he smiles, we know everything else can wait.
They didn’t have the perfect pregnancy journey, but their love is growing everyday as the baby grows, and so are they, as parents together.

When I reached out to Mr. & Mrs. Singh, they said that they were nothing but more than happy when they got the unexpected news after 3 years of marriage.
Stay tuned to read their story.
